Post-Mayoral Activities
In 1989, Steve Rothman ran unsuccessfully as one of three Democratic candidates to fill openings on the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders (the county legislature), losing the election by fewer than 2,000 votes in the county of 800,000 people.

In 1990, Steve Rothman was appointed Chairman of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Northern New Jersey (JCRC). On February 21, 1991, he hosted the 5th Annual Brotherhood/Sisterhood Interfaith Breakfast attended by over 500 guests from the Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Bahá’ía and Sikh communities.
In 1990 and 1991, Steve Rothman remained active in local affairs, joining the Wyckoff Democratic Municipal Committee and serving as its Chairman, as well as Campaign Manager for Jack Van Horne for Wyckoff Township Council.
